M/K Havørn
Sometime in mid fifties a boat came to this world. Her birthplace was in Flekkefjord, Norway at one of those yards which doesn’t exist any more. Sadly for that boat displays the finest fishing DNA. Through her body an experienced boat builder can immediately perceive a substantial construction and superior sea worthtiness.
There was a dude in Mid West at that time as well. He acquired the boat as he knew she would serve him well. They’d be doing shrimp together off of the coast of Kirkehamn.
Partners at sea. The fisherman and the vessel. Caring for one another.
What was to follow is purely monumental. For twenty years that fisherman would do logbook. DAILY! Filling meticulously his pages one by one as his partnership with that boat went through good years and rough seas many times over. Covering shrimping grounds, trips, catches, distances, tides and repairs.
That logbook was pivotal to the future of the vessel as they often times go longer stints than humans…
Interesting, right? Many of us have pets. Living creatures we care for. Yet.. We outlive them.
It’s not the case with boats.
The decades of information enclosed in those logbooks represent a pure and true realm of fishing. It’s a testimony of a coastal livelihood. Raw and simple… Just like Shackleton’s logbook. You read it yet? Although there are few words across in its crude form You get to unravel and understand personality, cunning and determination.
Many seasons later a kind gentleman has written a book based on the fisherman’s logbook. By then the boat was in hands of coastal club down South. For another, twenty one, odd years. Serving as a tour boat and an educational platform for “younger” generations caught by her evergreen beauty.
The book propagates the costal heritage and continues showing to people what is behind the corner.
Another stint has been accomplished by the club. At some point the boat has… Become younger than them as the tooth of time bit. She was requiring attention and has overcome the ability of the people around her.
For now the history of mighty Havørn slows down a little bit as she is enormously welcome at Stewa Boats.
The boat provides a classic looking platform for education and we are most happy to provide for her in return.
Havørn becomes the foundation’s flagship carrying on her fantastic legacy.
